PA Governor Tom Corbett Announces RAMP Award Winners at NAMII Special Event, Blairsville, PA. December 4, 2012.
NAMII, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, awarded on August 16, 2012, and driven by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), proudly announces that Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett was in attendance at a NAMII special event hosted by Acutronic USA, Inc. today to announce the winners of the first Research for Advanced Manufacturing in Pennsylvania (RAMP) program awards.
NAMII organized the event to recognize the ongoing support that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has provided to NAMII, the first-of-its-kind, national public-private institute tasked with accelerating additive manufacturing technologies to the mainstream manufacturing sector to transform Pennsylvania’s and our nation’s economic competitiveness. The RAMP program, which was in place prior to NCDMM’s federal award of NAMII, highlights both Pennsylvania’s foresight and commitment to advancing additive manufacturing technologies and the state’s role in bringing NAMII to the “Tech Belt” region of Eastern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
“It is a great honor to have Governor Corbett here to announce the first Research for Advanced Manufacturing in Pennsylvania program funding awards,” said Ralph Resnick, NCDMM President and Executive Director and Acting Director for NAMII. “This is a historic moment not only for the award recipients, but also for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is proof that additive manufacturing is a game-changer for the manufacturing industry in this region and our nation. I want to thank Governor Corbett and his administration for the unwavering support they have extended to NAMII, NCDMM, and the manufacturing sector at large, and I join Governor Corbett in congratulating the RAMP award winners.”
In announcing the awards to three Pennsylvania companies for their innovative work in additive manufacturing technologies, the Governor Corbett said he believes additive manufacturing could usher in an industrial revolution for Pennsylvania. Each of the three manufacturers being awarded today, ExOne in North Huntingdon, Paramount Industries in Langhorne, and Acutronic USA Inc. in Pittsburgh, works in additive manufacturing.
“This precise and economical technology means that manufacturing, something we once gave up for lost, is going to come back,” Corbett said. “We are seeing nothing less than the beginnings of a new Industrial Revolution. So to ExOne, Paramount Industries, and Acutronic, I say congratulations and thank you. Your willingness to invest in our industrial future marks you as leaders in this new century.”
The RAMP program is managed by Carnegie Mellon University in collaboration with Lehigh University and is funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Discovered in PA, Developed in PA (D2PA) program, which was created by the Corbett Administration. The D2PA program is devoted to increasing economic opportunity in the commonwealth by seeding innovative ideas that promote entrepreneurship, technology transfer, business outreach, and increased capacity.
